A LAN party. A legacy. Pure classic.
Dozens of engineers. One mountain lodge. A single very-loud switch. Bring your laptop, crimp your own Cat6, and try not to embarrass your team.
A nostalgic LAN-party-inspired Counter-Strike tournament โ engineering-grade fun, lodge-grade vibes.
CatStrike Classic is a Counter-Strike 1.6 tournament held during RevenueCat's annual offsite, RevenueDance, at a rustic Sundance lodge on May 20 2026.
It's intentionally designed to recreate the feeling of early-2000s LAN parties: dozens of engineers bringing their laptops, everyone connected through physical Ethernet cables, a real local area network built from scratch, players crimping their own cables before competing, and old-school CS 1.6 running across a wired LAN.
The tone is nostalgic, chaotic, fun, and slightly absurd โ with surprisingly serious effort put into recreating authentic LAN culture. Most participants are software engineers, founders, and operators with wildly different skill levels, from former competitive players to complete beginners. Teams are intentionally balanced to maximize fun and chaos rather than competitiveness.
Long tables filled with laptops, mice, keyboards, headphones. Ethernet cables hanging everywhere. Small tournament servers named Tama and Buidler. Homemade infrastructure powering the whole thing. A 2003 LAN cafรฉ crossed with a hacker house, an indie game tournament, and a company offsite run by engineers who took the joke way too seriously.
Servers, cables, and the four steps between you and your first frag.
Grab a USB-C โ Ethernet adapter, jack one end into your laptop, the other end into the switch. WiFi is forbidden โ this is a wired event.
DHCP hands you an address the moment you're plugged in. No manual config, no static IPs, no ipconfig incantations.
If BUIDLR and TAMA show up, double-click one and you're in. Easy mode.
CS 1.6's LAN browser can be flaky on modern machines (especially under Wine / compatibility layers). Switch to the Favorites tab โ Add a Server โ paste an address from the cards on the right. Refresh, double-click, join.
How matches start, which maps we play, and the exact server config.
Maps are derived from this list โ every match in a given round inherits the same map.
Twelve teams. Five players each. Carefully unbalanced for maximum chaos.
Match results update as the LAN heats up.
Snapshots from the LAN โ crimped cables, dim lighting, questionable mouse grips.
Hand-painted golden cats. Headphones. Flames. Absolutely no irony.
Each trophy is a gold-cast feline esports legend, jersey-clad in RevenueCat red, headset on, flanked by flames. Awarded to the winning squad of CatStrike Classic โ one for each member.
